Important Update from Superintendent Jennifer Joyce
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On November 7, 2025, Superintendent Jennifer Joyce of Andover Central School addressed concerns regarding the “Hold” response protocol that was announced last week. The letter clarifies the components of our Safety Response Protocols, ensuring everyone is informed and prepared for various emergency situations.
The protocols—Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter—are trained regularly to ensure quick and efficient responses during crises. Below is a summary of each protocol (more information can be found in the attached letter):
Hold: "Hold in Your Room or Area. Clear the Halls." This is used to keep hallways clear for emergencies like medical issues.
Secure: "Secure! Get Inside. Lock Outside Doors." This secures the building's perimeter against external threats.
Lockdown: "Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight." This secures rooms from internal threats.
Evacuate: "Evacuate! To the Announced Location." This involves orderly movement to safer locations in emergencies like fires.
Shelter: "Shelter! [State Hazard] and [Safety Strategy]." This provides refuge from hazards like tornadoes.
